Former Minister of State for Defence

Ibrahim-Magu1Former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has been linked in a new N400m scam.Economic and Financial Crimes Commission told newsmen that Obanikoro, who was released last Friday, might be invited again to explain his alleged role in the scam. The ex-minister allegedly received N4.7bn from the Office of the National Security Adviser and distributed over N3bn to Ekiti State Governor and governorship candidates of Osun states in 2014.Obanikoro subsequently returned N100m to the EFCC with a promise to return another N480m.A source close to Obanikoro, told newsmen that the ex-minister was not in charge of former President’s Goodluck Jonathan’s Lagos campaign and therefore could not have received such money.

Anti-corruption groups have urged the leadership of Senate to speed up action on the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC.According to them   Magu’s confirmation will give the anti-corruption fight the force to sustain President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration’s agenda to curtail impunity in governance. The groups said the delay by the Senate is sending a wrong signal of a deliberate attempt by the Senate to frustrate the anti-corruption fight at its best.
