Federal gov’t bars its officials from foreign trips over the COVID-19 outbreak

Federal government yesterday barred its officials and other workers from all forms of foreign trips over the COVID-19 outbreak, which has been declared a pandemic by World Health Organization.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustafa disclosed this last night after the inaugural meeting of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

It reported that even before the proscription, many top politicians and civil servants who hitherto travelled abroad frequently have since stopped traveling abroad.

While inaugurating the committee which he chairs, Mustafa said they have six months to complete their assignments.

Earlier at a separate event, the minister of state for health, Dr Olurinmbe Mamora said federal government has no plans on restricting the foreign nationals from entering the country.

He said rather than stopping people from coming into Nigeria, authorities would be intensifying screening on passengers from eight countries, China, Iran, Italy, South Korea, Germany, Japan, France and Spain.
