Newly elected members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have been tasked on the need to embrace health programmes to help in reducing maternal mortality among pregnant women in the state.
Executive Director of an NGO, Advocacy Nigeria, Hajia Saudatu Sani make the remarked at a retreat on the reduction of maternal mortality in Zamfara state, held in Kaduna.
She said the pragramme was informed as a result of high maternal mortality in some northern states, with Zamfara inclusive.
Sani said lawmakers have a major role to play towards reducing the problems through legislations and drastic approaches.
Also speaking, the newly elected Zamfara State House of Assembly Speaker, Nasir Muazu Magarya, said the retreat was as the instant of the House to reduce death of pregnant women in the state.
